A barrage of leaks may have spoiled the Pixel 9 lineup, but Google could still have some surprises in store during its August 13th event.
The company announced today it would extend restrictions on election-related queries to more AI services including AI Overviews in Search, YouTube Live Chat summaries, and image generation in Gemini. It’s an expansion of the policy Google announced last December.

If you try to download more than three updates at a time, you’ll see a “Pending” status, 9to5Google reports.
Google started allowing multiple full app downloads earlier this year; at the time, you were limited to just two downloads, but 9to5Google says that’s been bumped up to three.
This repair-friendly design lets you remove the device’s display for screen replacements, or just the backing if you need to change the battery. But it seems Google hasn’t perfected this yet, as the display broke when iFixit carefully removed it.
And just like the Pixel 8, its successor comes with pull tabs that can make the battery a pain to remove.
Following a test in June, Microsoft will now let you send files to your linked Android phone from the Share menu in Windows 11. The update will roll out gradually to users starting today.

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro review: in Google we trust?
These might just be the Pixel phones we’ve been waiting for, but it all depends on how much trust you’re willing to put into Google.
Just scroll to the bottom of your email, tap on the text box to start drafting your reply, and then tap the send icon to send it off, according to a Google blog post.
The new quick reply experience is live now on personal Google accounts. It’s coming to iOS “later this year,” Google says.
Now, when you choose “Share” within an already-shared Google Drive folder or document, you can click a new envelope-shaped icon to write an email to those you’ve shared it with.
The feature is rolling out now for some, with a broader rollout starting August 26th.
If you just got a Pixel 9 and you want to do more than potentially break the long held social contract we all shared around photos than soon you’ll be able to put the excellent Arc browser on it!
Now to patiently wait for extension support in the mobile version of Arc. I’ve been using it on my Mac and iPhone for months and cannot wait to put it on my Pixel and Boox Palma too.
The people who ruined the internet
SEO experts got very rich filling the web full of garbage. But are they to blame, or is Google?

New Pixel 9 owners might notice some device setup and transfer changes, as highlighted in this thread by Google’s Paul Dunlop.
Now transfers can be done at any time, you can move over only media Google Photos hasn’t already backed up in original quality, and you can plug in a USB cable to combine its speed with Wi-Fi while moving data.
Mineral, which Alphabet shut down last month, says it has sold some of its technology to John Deere to support the company’s See & Spray product, according to a memo posted last week. The startup also confirms that the berry company Driscoll will use Mineral’s tech to “better forecast yields, optimize quality inspections, and reduce food waste.”
No one’s ready for this
Our basic assumptions about photos capturing reality are about to go up in smoke.
As Google promised last week, some Pixel 9 owners are now seeing the satellite connectivity feature arriving on their devices. Availability is currently limited to the US (with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska) and there’s no word on when the rollout will expand to other regions.

I got Pixel Studio, Google’s AI image generation tool on the Pixel 9, to come up with some questionable things. But they’re nothing like what the folks over at Digital Trends got out of it, which feature popular cartoon characters firing AK47s, drunk driving, and donning Nazi uniforms. Google seems to have clamped down on some of these, but oof, not a good look.

Google Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL review: AI all over the place
The AI is inconsistent, but the hardware is oh so good.
While previous Pixel devices only allowed you to move over your existing data during the initial setup process, Google’s new Pixel 9 series has no such restrictions. Android Authority spotted a new “Back up or copy data” option in the device settings, with a “copy data” page that lets users “bring data from another device” at any time.
